Yes, this is that time of the year when all of us get to eat seviya, baida roti, mutton korma, badami ghosht and more. If you haven’t already guessed, it’s Eid. India began the celebrations of Eid al-Adha 21 August and will end it on the evening of Wednesday, 22 August.

This is also the day that many of us know as Bakrid – the day commemorated by a feast prepared by the sacrificed animals. People sacrifice sheep and goats on this day and then invite their friends and family for a delectable meal.

However, things are about to take a turn. A guy in Lucknow is preparing to cut a cake instead of goats and sheep. The hope is that this eco-friendly way of celebrating Bakrid will encourage more and more people to do something along similar lines.

‘The custom of sacrificing an animal on Bakrid is not right. I appeal to everyone to celebrate the festival by cutting a cake instead of an animal,’ a buyer was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
